The magic of craft

I just spent time helping my Sarah with her Pippin audition, for Diane Paulus’ wonderful new Broadway production.  I worked with Diane in Johnny Baseball up at A.R.T., and found her fascinating.  She is a director with the rare combination of having the whole artsy-fartsy thing, yet down to earth enough to know when a scene needs to be “faster, funnier, louder.”

My kind of director.

Anyway, Sarah and I finessed her initial read using The Primary Rules of Dialogue (found in Part I of my book). It’s amazing how strong choices can be doubly powerful and/or hilarious when adhering to just a few easy rules.  Craft never ceases to astonish!

Break a leg, baby!

Just days away…

I’ve been writing the book for over five years.  Three versions found the round file, and this last one has suffered innumerable rewrites.  Yet now, I just wait for Frank (my formatting guy), and the last ebook file to upload to Amazon.

Thank God, this project nears completion.  There were many times I nearly gave up in frustration!

Whew!

My First Post…

Hello,

I’m Burke Moses, the author of Stanislavski Never Wore Tap Shoes. On this site, I’m going to be talking about the craft of acting, and discussing the lessons in my text; the tools mandatory for speaking dialogue on the musical stage.

Here, I will try as best I can to answer any questions  visitors might have about musical theater performance.  Please feel free to contact me using the form on the right.

Best to all musical theater folks, and break a leg out there!
